Crypto Market Pulls Back Ahead of U.S. CPI Data
The global cryptocurrency market opened the day on a cautious note as investors await the release of the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation data. Bitcoin (BTC) is trading just below $119,000, while the total market capitalization has declined to $4.03 trillion.
This pullback, driven by inflation expectations, has reduced risk appetite across the board. Over the past 24 hours, the total market value fell by 2.5%, prompting traders to adopt a defensive stance. BTC dropped 2.7% to $118,819, Ethereum (ETH) fell 0.3% to $4,292, XRP slid 4.2% to $3.14, and Solana (SOL) declined 5.8% to $174.88.
However, institutional demand remains strong, with Bitcoin ETFs recording $178 million in inflows and Ethereum ETFs attracting a massive $1.02 billion on August 11.
Metaplanet Buys $61.4 Million Worth of Bitcoin

With this latest acquisition, Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings have risen to 18,113 BTC, accumulated at an average cost of $101,911, worth roughly $1.85 billion in total.

Trump’s Bitcoin Advisor Plans $762 Million Purchase
David Bailey, a Bitcoin advocate and crypto policy advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, announced plans to purchase approximately $762 million worth of Bitcoin. Bailey described the move as part of his long-standing vision to execute a “$1 billion single purchase” of BTC.
The acquisition will be carried out using the Volume-Weighted Average Price (VWAP) strategy to minimize market slippage. At current prices, this investment would amount to roughly 6,400 BTC.
Bailey, CEO of Nakamoto Inc. and co-founder of BTC Inc. (the parent company of Bitcoin Magazine), stated: “We’re becoming a Bitcoin giant.” His company recently secured $51.5 million through a private equity sale as part of a merger with KindlyMD.
According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET, at least 17 more companies have added BTC to their reserves over the past month, bringing the total number of public and private companies holding Bitcoin to 221, with a combined reserve exceeding 1.24 million BTC.

Paxos Reapplies for U.S. National Trust Bank Charter
Paxos Trust Company, the crypto infrastructure firm behind PayPal’s PYUSD stablecoin, has reapplied for a U.S. national trust bank charter. Currently operating under a limited trust license in New York, Paxos would gain federal oversight to custody customer assets and process payments nationwide if approved.
CEO Charles Cascarilla said: “OCC oversight will further strengthen our historic commitment to the highest standards of security and transparency.” Paxos had initially applied in 2020 and received preliminary approval in 2021, but the approval expired in 2023 after the company did not launch operations within the required timeframe.
Technical Analysis
Bitcoin (BTC)
BTC remains under short-term pressure. Trading between $118,000 and $122,300, the price failed to hold above $122,000. RSI sits at 48 (neutral), while MACD remains in negative territory. Short-term support is at $117,200–$116,000 and resistance at $119,800–$120,500.
🔍 Outlook: A lower-than-expected CPI could push BTC above $120,500, while a higher reading might lead to a test of $116,000 support.
Ethereum (ETH)
ETH’s on-chain metrics remain supportive. The $4,200–$4,150 zone is key support; a drop below could trigger moves toward $4,000 and $3,750. Resistance lies at $4,350–$4,400.
🔍 Outlook: Breaking above $4,400 could initiate a fresh uptrend.
Ripple (XRP)
XRP is consolidating above the $3.10 support level. Resistance is seen at $3.23–$3.30. While activity is increasing, a decisive breakout has yet to occur.
🔍 Outlook: Clearing $3.30 could open the way toward $3.56, while a support loss could lead to $2.90.
Forward-Looking Insights

Summary
The crypto market’s pullback today is largely driven by pre-CPI caution. While short-term signals point to uncertainty, strong institutional inflows and macroeconomic catalysts could trigger renewed upward momentum. Metaplanet’s acquisition and Bailey’s planned purchase suggest that institutional accumulation is far from over.
