Rate Cut Expectations Rise After CPI Data: Crypto Market Climbs to $4.13 Trillion

Overall Market Outlook

The global cryptocurrency market started the day on a positive note after U.S. CPI data came in moderate, strengthening expectations that the Federal Reserve could move towards a rate cut. Bitcoin (BTC) was priced above $119,000, while the total market capitalization rose 2.4% in the last 24 hours to reach $4.13 trillion.

In this risk-on environment, Ethereum (ETH) recorded a strong rally, gaining 8.3% in the past 24 hours to trade at $4,638 — just 4.9% below its all-time high from November 10, 2021. This proximity to ATH has strengthened market expectations for a potential new bull cycle.

Strong Altcoin Rally

XRP rose 2.6% to $3.21, while Solana (SOL) surged 12.5% to $196.11. On August 12, Bitcoin ETFs saw inflows of $65.94 million, while Ethereum ETFs attracted $523.92 million. Ethereum ETF inflows have now extended to six consecutive days, underscoring growing institutional interest beyond Bitcoin and into the altcoin market.

ETF Developments from Grayscale

The official registry of the U.S. state of Delaware added listings for Grayscale Cardano Trust ETF and Grayscale Hedera Trust ETF. In previous cases, such registrations have been followed by formal SEC filings and, in some instances, ETF approvals. Earlier this year, the SEC approved NYSE Arca’s spot Cardano ETF and Nasdaq’s Hedera ETF applications, signaling a new era for altcoin-based ETFs.

On the same day, Grayscale launched two new investment funds offering exposure to the DeepBook and Walrus tokens within the Sui blockchain ecosystem. The SEC’s “Project Crypto,” launched in collaboration with the CFTC, aims to create a clear regulatory framework for the digital asset market, including determining which cryptocurrencies will be classified as securities.

New Crypto ATM Regulations in Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, a new bill aimed at preventing fraud through crypto ATMs was introduced in the state senate. Key provisions include:

  • Mandatory money transmitter license for ATM operators
  • Collection of user identification data (name, address, DOB, email, etc.)
  • Passport or driver’s license verification for each transaction
  • Daily transaction limit set at $1,000
  • Fraud warning labels on machines
  • Transaction fees capped at $5 or 3% of the transaction amount

This legislation follows warnings from the U.S. Treasury’s FinCEN, which highlighted crypto ATMs as tools often used for fraud, cybercrime, and illicit trade.

Pantera Capital Invests Over $300 Million in Crypto Treasury Firms

Pantera Capital announced that it has invested over $300 million into publicly traded Digital Asset Treasury (DAT) companies holding significant cryptocurrency reserves. According to Pantera, DATs can potentially generate higher returns than directly holding tokens.

Pantera’s portfolio includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB, Toncoin, Hyperliquid, Sui, and Ethena. The firm highlighted BitMine Immersion, which holds 1.15 million ETH, as the world’s largest Ethereum treasury. BitMine increased its ETH per share by 330% in its first month, driving share prices from $4.27 to $51 — a performance Pantera likens to banks trading above book value due to growth potential.

Technical Analysis

Bitcoin (BTC)

Yesterday’s price range was between $118,300 and $120,300.

  • Resistance levels: $120,880 – $121,580 – $122,900
  • Support levels: $118,850 – $117,550 – $116,850
On-chain data indicates that selling pressure from long-term holders is easing. Maintaining the $118,000–$118,800 range is crucial for sustaining upside momentum.

Ethereum (ETH)

ETH recovered from $4,320 to $4,630.

  • Resistance levels: $4,650 – $4,800
  • Support level: $4,350 (a drop below could lead to the $4,000–$4,300 range)
ETF inflows and whale buying have been the primary drivers of the rally.

Ripple (XRP)

XRP climbed from $3.10 to $3.31.

  • Resistance levels: $3.26 – $3.31
  • Support levels: $3.21 – $3.23
Following the Ripple-SEC settlement, volumes surged 208% to $12.4 billion, reflecting strong institutional interest.

Future Outlook

  • A potential Fed rate cut could trigger a strong rally in crypto markets during the second half of the year.
  • Altcoin ETF approvals may accelerate, attracting further institutional capital.
  • Clearer regulations could boost investor confidence and long-term participation.
  • Ethereum is likely to retest its all-time high in the near term.

Overall Assessment

Today’s market sentiment is supported by moderate inflation data and increased rate cut expectations. If Bitcoin maintains levels above $118,000 and Ethereum breaks $4,650 resistance, the upward trend could strengthen. Institutional inflows into both Bitcoin and altcoins, combined with evolving ETF developments and regulatory clarity, are likely to shape market momentum in the coming weeks.
